Welcome!

Welcome to Strength for Today, Bright Hope for Tomorrow! My goal, and the purpose of this blog, is to encourage young women in their daily life and their walk with God. The wonderful hymn Great Is Thy Faithfulness, which contains the line “Strength for today, bright hope for tomorrow”, has become a favorite of mine as God has given me strength each day to follow Him, and the bright hope for both my earthly future and eternity in Heaven. As Christ brings me strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, I hope you find it as well. Great is HIS faithfulness!

Christ Is Risen, Christ Is Living

Christ Is Risen, Christ Is Living
Christ is risen, Christ is living.
Dry your tears; be unafraid.
Death and darkness could not hold Him,
Nor the tomb in which He lay.
Do not look among the dead
For One who lives forevermore.
Tell the world that Christ is risen;
Make it known He goes before.

If the Lord had never risen,
We’d have nothing to believe.
But His promise can be trusted:
“You will live because I live.”
As we share the death of Adam,
So in Christ we live again.
Death has lost its sting and terror;
Christ the Lord has come to reign.

Death has lost its old dominion;
Let the world rejoice and shout!
Christ, the firstborn of the living,
Gives us life and leads us out.
Let us thank our God who causes
Hope to spring up from the ground.
Christ is risen, Christ is giving
Life eternal, life profound.

Good Friday 2010

“Behold the Man upon a cross,
My sin upon His shoulders.
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers.
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished.
His dying breath has brought me life.
I know that it is finished.”

“My sin, o the bliss of this glorious thought, my sin not in part but the whole
is nailed to the cross and I bare it no more. Praise the Lord!”

God's Love for Me

February 14th means different things to different people. Generally, it is recognized as a day to express your love for a certain person. But, I have found that many singles, especially ladies, find it one of the worst days of the year. I have heard of it being renamed “Singles Awareness Day”, a day when singles remind themselves and everyone around them that they are single. However, I find that viewing the day in this way causes a slight, or severe, case of self-pity and discouragement. So, I decided to see the holiday in a different light this year. Instead of looking at the love two humans have for each other, I looked at the love God has for me. I searched for verses in the Bible, songs, and quotes that tell me of God’s love for me. As I studied and read, I again realized that I am loved by the God of the universe with the greatest love of all time, and found myself falling deeper in love with Him. I would like to share with you some of the things I found, and invite you, whether single or married, to join with me in celebrating God’s love for us this Valentine’s Day.

The Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me
and have believed that I came forth from the Father.
John 16:27

God’s steadfast, sure love for us is:
Unbelievable - so worship!
Unwarranted - so rejoice!
Unshakable - so love!

God’s steadfast, sure love is unshaken by:
Death - when you die God’s love keeps going.
Time - God’s love never wears out.
Sin - sin does not break God’s eternal love for you.

Who will separate us from the love of Christ?
Romans 8:35a

The Love of God
The love of God is greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell,
It goes beyond the highest star
And reaches to the lowest Hell;
The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled
And pardoned from his sin.

When years of time shall pass away
And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall,
When men, who here refuse to pray,
On rocks and hills and mountains call;
God’s love so sure shall still endure,
All measureless and strong;
Redeeming grace to Adam’s race
The saints’ and angels’ song.

Could we with ink the ocean fill
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill
And every man a scribe by trade.
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole
Though stretched from sky to sky.

O love of God, how rich and pure,
How measureless and strong.
It shall forever more endure
The saints’ and angels’ song.

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38-39

How Deep the Father’s Love for Us
How deep the Father’s love for us,
How vast beyond all measure,
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure.

How great the pain of searing loss.
The Father turns His face away.
As wounds which mare the chosen One,
Bring many sons to glory.

Behold the Man upon a cross,
My sin upon His shoulders.
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice,
Call out among the scoffers.

It was my sin that held Him there.
Until it was accomplished.
His dying breath has brought me life.
I know that it is finished.

I will not boast in anything,
No gifts, no power, no wisdom.
But I will boast in Jesus Christ,
His death and resurrection.

Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer.
But this I know with all my heart,
His wounds have paid my ransom.

See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us,
that we would be called children of God; and such we are.
1 John 3:1a

Another Year Is Dawning

I found this hymn by Frances R. Havergal and was so encouraged by it. May this be our prayer as we begin another year.

Another year is dawning: Dear Father, let it be,
In working or in waiting, another year with Thee;
Another year of progress, another year of praise,
Another year of proving Thy Presence all the days.

Another year of mercies, of faithfulness and grace;
Another year of gladness in the shining of Thy face;
Another year of leaning upon Thy loving breast;
Another year of trusting, of quiet, happy rest.

Another year of service, of witness for Thy love;
Another year of training for holier work above.
Another year is dawning: Dear Father, let it be,
On earth or else in heaven, another year for Thee.

Happy New Year!

The Song in My Heart ~ Make Me a Servant

Make Me a Servant

Make me a servant, humble and meek.
Lord let me lift up those who are weak.
And may the prayer of my heart always be,
Make me a servant, today.

I have sung this hymn for years, many times not thinking about the words. Eventually, I did read through and think about what this hymn is saying. Realizing it was a prayer, I determined to sing it as so. God calls us to be servants. Christ demonstrated to us what a servant life looks like. I love to serve. Serving has brought me joy and a feeling of fulfillment repeatedly. However, there are times when I am selfish and don’t feel like serving others. It is then that God brings this hymn to my mind and, after confessing my bad attitude to Him, I sing “Make Me a Servant” as a prayer. He has never failed to do just what I ask in this prayer, and change my heart and attitude about the task at hand.

The Song in My Heart ~ It Is Well with My Soul

It Is Well with My Soul

When peace like a river
Attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roar,
Whatever my lot
Thou hast taught me to say,
“It is well, it is well, with my soul.”

Though Satan should buffet,
Though trials should come,
Let this blessed assurance control,
That Christ hath regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

My sin -- O the bliss of this glorious thought --
My sin not in part but the whole
Is nailed to the cross, and I bare it no more!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

And, Lord haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll,
The trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend.
Even so it is well with my soul.

It is well with my soul.
It is well, it is well with my soul.

Often in my life, when I have been faced with a trial or some great sadness, the Lord has brought this hymn to my mind to comfort me. He reminds me that whether life is calm and peaceful or stormy, I can say that it is well with my soul. Even when trials come or Satan places a temptation before me, Christ knows and will carry me through. I love the third verse that reminds me that all my sin has been taken from me and I am now free and forgiven! This wonderful hymn has brought me strength and encouragement many times, and the Lord has taught me, even through tears, to say with joy that it is well with my soul!
Happy Singing!

The Song in My Heart ~ In My Heart There Rings a Melody

In My Heart There Rings a Melody

I have a song that Jesus gave me;
It was sent from heaven above.
There never was a sweeter melody;
‘Tis a melody of love.

I love the Christ who died on Calvary,
For He washed my sins away.
He put within my heart a melody,
And I know it’s there to stay.

‘Twill be my endless theme in glory;
With the angels I will sing.
‘Twill be a song with glorious harmony
When the courts of heaven ring.

In my heart there rings a melody,
There rings a melody with heavens harmony.
In my heart there rings a melody of love.

This short song puts so well the attitude we as Christians should have. Jesus Christ came to earth to die and take away our sins. That is something to sing about! He has given us a song to sing with joy and gusto. This song reminds us of God’s love for us and tells others of the love God has for them as well. I often sing this song when my heart is downcast. The bouncy tune and wonderful words instantly turn the grey clouds to sunshine and my frown to a smile.

Happy Singing!

The Song in My Heart

I love to sing! You don’t have to know me for very long to figure that out. :) Whether it’s with or without music, by myself or with a group, I love to sing. Most of the time I just burst out singing whatever song comes to mind first. However, there are times when I purposefully choose a song to change my heart and attitude about something, or to calm fears or worries. With the next few posts (I’m not sure how many there will be :)), I would like to share with you the songs that have had, and continue to have, an affect on my life.

Mother, a Gift from God

Mother, a Gift from God
Words by J. Paul Williams

A mother is a gift from God,
Her voice is music to the ears.
A mother is a gift from God,
She gently wipes away each tear.
She takes the time for girls and boys,
She makes the sacrifice to bring her children joy.

God is working through her to teach us how to live,
God is working through her to show us how to give.
Teaching us to walk by faith,
Keeping our feet on solid ground,
God is working though her, love is her finest crown.

We can see God’s gift of grace in the way that she forgives,
We can see God’s gift of love in the way that she lives.

God is working through her to teach us how to live,
God is working through her to show us how to give.
Teaching us to walk by faith,
Keeping our feet on solid ground,
God is working though her, love is her finest crown.

God is working through her, love is her finest crown!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Great Is Thy Faithfulness

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God, my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee.
Thou changest not; Thy compassions they fail not.
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.

Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon, and stars in their courses above,
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love.

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thy own dear presence to cheer and to guide,
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow --
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided.
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
