Welcome!

Welcome to Strength for Today, Bright Hope for Tomorrow! My goal, and the purpose of this blog, is to encourage young women in their daily life and their walk with God. The wonderful hymn Great Is Thy Faithfulness, which contains the line “Strength for today, bright hope for tomorrow”, has become a favorite of mine as God has given me strength each day to follow Him, and the bright hope for both my earthly future and eternity in Heaven. As Christ brings me strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, I hope you find it as well. Great is HIS faithfulness!

A Beautiful Truth ~ 2 Peter 1:3

Seeing that His divine power has granted to us
everything pertaining to life and godliness,
through the true knowledge of Him
who called us by His own glory and excellence.
2 Peter 1:3
God has called me by His own glory and excellence and has given me everything I need to live a godly life.

I am a companion of all those who fear You,
And of those who keep Your precepts.

Psalm 119:63

A Daily Prayer

I found this quote/prayer in Elisabeth Elliot’s book Secure in the Everlasting Arms.

“Almighty God, we bless and praise Thee that we have wakened to the light of another day; and now we will think of what a day should be. Our days are Thine, let them be spent for Thee. Our days are few, let them be spent with care. There are dark days behind us, forgive their sinfulness; there may be dark days before us, strengthen us for their trials. We pray Thee to shine on this day -- the day which we may call our own. Lord, we go to our daily work; help us to take pleasure therein. Show us clearly what our duty is; help us to be faithful in doing it. Let all we do be well done, fit for Thine eye to see. Give us strength to do, patience to bear; let our courage never fail. When we cannot love our work, let us think of it as Thy task; and by our true love to Thee, make unlovely things shine in the light of Thy great love. Amen.” ~ George Dawson, 1821-1876

The Song in My Heart ~ Make Me a Servant

Make Me a Servant

Make me a servant, humble and meek.
Lord let me lift up those who are weak.
And may the prayer of my heart always be,
Make me a servant, today.

I have sung this hymn for years, many times not thinking about the words. Eventually, I did read through and think about what this hymn is saying. Realizing it was a prayer, I determined to sing it as so. God calls us to be servants. Christ demonstrated to us what a servant life looks like. I love to serve. Serving has brought me joy and a feeling of fulfillment repeatedly. However, there are times when I am selfish and don’t feel like serving others. It is then that God brings this hymn to my mind and, after confessing my bad attitude to Him, I sing “Make Me a Servant” as a prayer. He has never failed to do just what I ask in this prayer, and change my heart and attitude about the task at hand.
